After enduring Ogaga’s worsening battle with schizophrenia and the harm he continued to inflict on her and their sons, Serome made a bold decision: to leave him and return to her hometown. This came after Ogheneovo and Odiri pleaded with the Ovie on her behalf.
Although initially hesitant, the Ovie eventually agreed—he did not want Serome or her sons to die at Ogaga’s hands. However, he placed one condition: Serome and her sons had to find their way to the borders of Oto Egba on their own. No one was coming to rescue them.
Serome sets her escape plan in motion
After receiving the news from her brother Ogheneovo that she was allowed to return home, Serome sprang into action. She gave Ogaga his medication, which usually left him drowsy, and as sleep overtook him, she gathered her belongings and sons, beginning their journey toward the borders of Oto Egba.
Aziza alerts Ogaga
Just as they left, Aziza betrayed Serome by alerting Ogaga to her escape. Ogaga woke up and began chasing them down. Despite their efforts to avoid him, he caught up with them at the border.
Atarhe to the rescue
Waiting at the border was Ogheneovo, ready to escort Serome and her sons to safety. Upon seeing Ogaga, Ogheneovo immediately sprang into action, leading to a violent fight between him and Ogaga—one that cost Ogheneovo an eye.
Fearing their escape plan would fail, Atarhe made a shocking decision: he held down his father and insisted that Serome, Ogheneovo, and Akpofure flee without him.
