Catch up with the Nigerian Idol world – Nigerian Idol

We decided to take a look at some of the acts who have been involved with the Idol identity and what they are up to.
Nigerian Idol

 

The Idol world in Nigeria has seen a vast array of talent pass through its walls. From Contestant to Judges, they have all gone on to achieve the most amazing feats musically. We are going to be taking a look at some of these great acts and what they have been up to. 

Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo is a product of a variant of the Idol universe tagged West African Idol. This laid the groundwork for what was going to be an amazing platform for the display of talent in Nigeria. Though the West African Idol had Contestants from other countries, Timi Dakolo a Nigerian came out victorious and snagged the title as the first Idol winner in the country. Since his win in 2007. 


Timi has released many hit singles, some of which are; Wish Me Well, Iyawo Me, and The Vow to name a few. His most recent release is the song Obim which featured TV host Ebuka and fashion stylist Noble Igwe. He is currently working on a new project and was recently seen recording with Afrobeats artiste Davido.


Omawumi

Omawonder as she is fondly called also started out on West African Idol and had almost immediate success after the show with the release of songs such as In The Music and Love Nwantiti. Her first album ‘Wonder Woman’ set the tone for what was going to be an amazing music career. Omawumi's last released body of work is the album Love Deep High Life which features singles such as My Life, and Billionaire


Yeka Onka

Yeka Onka was the winner of the maiden edition of Nigerian Idol. After her win, Yeka wasted no time in getting into the music industry and eventually settled in the gospel music genre where she continues to release music and perform. 


Mercy Chinwo 

Mercy Chinwo who was the second winner of Nigerian Idol has made a name for herself in the gospel music genre where she has released many hit tracks. Mercy has released many recognizable gospel songs including the hit single Excess Love.  

Evelle

Considered a singer with a unique tone, Evelle snagged the winning position of the fourth Season of Nigerian Idol and has continued to wax strong in the Nigerian music space. She currently provides her vocals for TV and radio jingles while performing her own music.  


KPeace

Kpeace won the fifth Season of Nigerian Idol and has since been growing his brand steadily. He recently released the teaser for his new song ‘Plus Size’ set to drop on the 20th of May 2022.

Kingdom

After a brief hiatus, Nigerian Idol returned with Kingdom emerging as the winner of the sixth Season. He recently released the single Shey You Go Dey and plans on releasing more music.

Francis (Atela)

Francis came in as the runner up in Season six of Nigerian Idol. He has released singles such as King (My Father) and recently Savage.

Our Judges are not left out of this. Let’s take a look at what they have been up to. 

Simi

Simi has been very busy within the music space and we are loving it. Right before the start of the Season, she released the hit track Woman to critical acclaim and also released the hit single Sare.

D’banj

The Koko Master does not dull when it comes to churning out the hits. When this Season of Nigerian Idol premiered, we were dancing to the tune of his some of his hits like Banger and Stress-Free. On the 13th of May 2022, he dropped the smash hit Face Show which is off his famous quote on the show ‘Your face show, your show shine’.

 

The Idol universe is definitely a colourful mix of talent and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for new and old artists in the space.
