If bad luck had a face, it would look suspiciously like Lekan Idowu. Life has been dealing him heavy blows, from being publicly flogged during a protest against Chief Odafe’s tyrannical reign at the motor park, to getting banned from driving his bus in the community. It’s been downhill ever since.

Now, Idowu’s struggling to provide for his family, disappointing his wife, and making choices that make us yell at our screens, “Sir, WHY?!”

Is Idowu a terrible father? Not really. He loves his family and tries (emphasis on tries) to be there for them. But as they say, love is not always enough, especially when your flaws are wreaking havoc left and right. Let’s talk about them.

The gambler's dream (and nightmare)
Idowu has a firm, unwavering belief that gambling is his golden ticket out of poverty. In Ajakoro, where poverty hangs heavy in the air, betting feels like hope, although misguided hope. Idowu clings to it with both hands, betting away not just money, but sometimes even common sense. The worst part? He once gambled with the money raised for his daughter’s hospital bill. Yes, you read that right.

While that single act might not have directly caused her death, it put a bright, flashing spotlight on his irresponsibility. It's giving "bad decisions, level 1000."

Drowning his sorrows... literally
When he’s not busy losing bets, Idowu's knocking back bottles like they contain the answers to all his problems. Sadly, since losing his bus driver job, his free time has multiplied, and so have his drinking sessions. With his wife visibly losing faith in him, you'd think he'd slow down. Instead, he’s becoming that guy at the bar who "used to be somebody.” Not exactly the blueprint for "Father of the Year."

Decisions that make you want to scream
As if gambling and drinking weren't enough, Idowu also specialises in poor decision-making. We’re talking PhD-level poor choices. From leading a protest that ended up costing him everything (bold but tragic) to spending mysterious "finders keepers" money he stumbled upon outside his house (even though he shared most of it with his family — small win?), Idowu consistently reminds us that logic is sometimes not in his toolkit. Honestly, every time he makes a decision, we brace ourselves for disaster.
