At 52, Mr. Maduenu is the principal of Ascending Scholars School, a position he fought hard to attain but struggles to hold with dignity. Born and raised in the slums of the South-South, he climbed his way out of poverty through sheer determination, even serving his NYSC in Maiduguri—a chapter that instilled resilience but also left him wary of challenges.

Now living in a modest two-bedroom apartment with his wife, Maduenu faces turbulence on all fronts. His marriage teeters on the edge of collapse, but he goes to great lengths to keep this personal turmoil hidden from the school staff. His main focus is on earning the respect he craves, though his dodgy and calculating nature often undermines his efforts.

A master of deflection, Maduenu avoids taking responsibility for his shortcomings, choosing instead to play the role of a people-pleaser. His actions are often guided by self-preservation rather than true leadership, making him a polarizing figure among both staff and students.

Not too tall, with an unassuming demeanour, Maduenu cuts the figure of a man who blends into the background, but his keen interest in chess hints at his strategic mind. Unfortunately, his moves in life are often as calculated as his games, leaving others unsure of his sincerity.
